A New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart, Dr. Ayew Afriyie, has strongly advocated for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to remain the party’s presidential candidate for the 2028 elections.

Speaking on Oyerepa TV, Dr. Afriyie argued that Bawumia has established himself as a well-marketed candidate, making him the ideal choice for the party’s future.

He dismissed the idea of replacing him, comparing Bawumia’s political journey to that of former leaders like John Agyekum Kufuor, John Atta Mills, and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, all of whom contested multiple times before securing victory.

“Why change Bawumia? Even when John Mahama lost by a significant margin, people still pushed for his return because he had marketed himself well.

"I believe the NPP must stick with Bawumia,” he remarked.
