I know I’m a th,reat to the NDC, so I protect myself – Hawa Koomson on why she carried pepper spray to Ablekuma North

Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Mavis Hawa Koomson, has subtly confirmed reports that she resorted to using pepper spray for self-defense during the tense Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun election held on July 11.

In what appears to be her first direct response to the viral reports and videos suggesting she used the substance, the outspoken former MP for Awutu Senya East stated:

“I know I’m a threat to the NDC, which is why I take steps to protect myself wherever I go, as a form of self-defense," she said defiantly, as quoted by UTV.

Although she did not explicitly mention the pepper spray, her statement has been widely interpreted as an indirect confirmation of the media reports that captured her allegedly discharging the spray in the midst of a ch,aotic incident at St Peters polling station.

The Ablekuma North rerun, which resulted in a historic victory for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), was marred by allegations of intimidation, sc.uffles, and security breaches.
