Galamsey did not start in China, it's you Ghanaians who started it and invite Chinese people to come and help you - Chinese Ambassador fumes
Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Tong Defa, has distanced Chinese nationals from being the root cause of illegal mining in Ghana, popularly known as galamsey.
Speaking during a media interaction at his private residence in Accra, the Ambassador stated that it is Ghanaians themselves who enable and invite Chinese individuals into such activities.
“I don’t understand why when people say galamsey, they equate it to Chinese. Actually, it is not Chinese. It didn’t originate from China," he asserted.
He further explained that Chinese nationals cannot independently acquire mining licenses or permits in Ghana, implying that their involvement is often made possible through local collaboration.
“Chinese nationals cannot obtain licences or get permits. It is the Ghanaian people who throw the Chinese people over here," he added.
